Event Projection was recently involved in providing the lighting for the Smirnoff ice sculptures at 5 cities around the UK, celebrating the launch of two new flavours of vodka: green apple and lime.

In Covent Garden, London the sculpture of the iconic London skyline was carved into a huge hunk of frozen water. Weighing over three and a half tonnes, the ice sculptures were unveiled on Friday 11th of September with the lights installed.

Other sculptures depicting famous landmarks in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Manchester and Liverpool were also unveiled in their respective cities on the same day.

The lighting of the sculpures was of great importance as they needed to stand out at night. We decided to use several different LED fixtures on the various sized sculptures. Pulsar Chroma Floods and Battens were used throughout to wash the sculptures with white and green light and PixelPars were used to pick out details and highlight important areas. LED fixtures were the only way to light these sculptures as traditional lighting would have created so much heat the sculptures would melt rapidly! These fabulous LED fixtures are waterproof to IP65 rating which meant that even when we put them inside some of the sculptures everything was safe and sound.

The enormous sculptures at ten metres long and three metres high, are carved out of huge blocks of ice by some of the world's top ice sculptors at Hamilton Ice Sculptures, based in London and they are certainly the first choice for such a high profile project. To visit their website, click here.
