Event Projection pull off The World's Greatest Bank Job! 10/02/2010

Very early in the morning of the 9th February, two of our projectionist set off to do a bank job! The daring location was the Bank of England; we like to aim high at Event Projection!
The plan was to project the slogan "Be Part of the World's Greatest Bank Job' onto the Bank of England to launch the "Robin Hood Tax" campaign.
"Backed by a coalition of green, UK and poverty NGOs, we are calling on the government to impose a tiny tax on bankers' international transactions (i.e. not public money!) to raise money to stop the cuts on public services in the UK AND allow the government to keep its promises on aid to poor countries and fighting climate change. The campaign is global but initially involving the US, UK and some European countries. We're calling it the Robin Hood Tax. Pinching from the rich banking sector to help pay for the poor is something we think Robin himself would have supported."
"The campaign has attracted a string of celebrity endorsements, including Four Weddings and a Funeral writer Richard Curtis and Love Actually actor Bill Nighy. The campaign, supported by groups including Barnado's, the RSPB, the NUT and the Unite union, claims the tax - which is based on Nobel Laureate economist James Tobin's idea from 1972 - could generate £255bn worldwide a year." Rupert Neate, The Telegraph, 10 February 2010.
"Early on Tuesday morning, the phrase 'Be part of the worlds greatest bank job' was projected on to the Bank of England. Such innovative, guerrilla marketing tactics may well be an effective way of mobilising public support. At the very least, it informs people about an arcane tax law in an exciting and entertaining way." Samira Shackle, The New Statesman, 10 February 2010.
Guerrilla projection is becoming somewhat of a speciality for us at Event Projection and we have invested heavily in technology to make jobs like these go as smoothly as possible such as various high lumen projectors, power and rigging. As well as the equipment, stunts like these require precise planning and site visits not to mention assessing the legal implications in this rather grey area of the law. If you are interested in outdoor or guerrilla projection, please call us on 020 7232 1748 and we will be happy to talk through the many options with you.
The projection and campaign received a great deal of press from day one. Please see below for links to some of the best and the short film by Richard Curtis and Bill Nighy:
